Best Health e-Learning Opportunities

Maintaining our overall health should be one of our highest priorities.  If you are interested in learning how to better your life or helping those around you live healthier, there are plenty of e-Learning opportunities available.

Learn more about some of the most popular health organizations and the e-Learning opportunities they provide.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization recently launched The Health Academy with the intention to strengthen both health and education.

The academy strives to offer a unique learning experience.  WHO claims their courses will transform students from passive recipients of information to active participants in knowledge acquisition.

WHO has taken a look at the most pressing health issues around the world.  Then, they designed courses to educate the general population about those concerns.  The e-Learning courses available through The Health Academy have been formulated based on the most relevant health information, scientific research, and best practices from the field of medicine.

The courses have been specifically designed to meet the needs of a particular country or group of countries.  Most courses are available in both the country’s official and local languages.

Since health concerns vary, the topics of the courses are quite diverse.  For example, here are just a few of the topics available for study:

  • Blood donation, most common diseases transmitted by the blood, HIV/AIDS and more.
  • The dangers of tobacco
  • Decreasing the incidence of habitual use of substances
  • Safe driving practices
  • Avoiding tuberculosis
  • Safe food handling
  • Oral health
  • Heart attack and stroke prevention
  • Malaria awareness

Health e-Learning

The Health e-Learning courses are made possible by The International Institute of Human Lactation.  These courses are designed to help students become professionals in the field of lactation by providing an all-inclusive study of the subject.

The program consists of 10 courses and will teach the student all the issues of relevance to breastfeeding mothers and infants.

During the 12-months of study, students have access to top-notch learning materials as well as tutors and advice from other professionals in the field of lactation.

The program features 10 different lessons.  Some examples of lesson topics include:

  • Breastmilk: Composition and Function
  • Communication and Education
  • Breastmilk, Breastfeeding & the Preterm Baby
  • Evolution of Breastfeeding as a Public Health Issue

For more information and course registration, check the Health e-Learning website.

Global Health e-Learning Center

Several years ago, USAID’s Bureau of Global Health developed Global Health eLearning.  The program was designed to provide useful lessons for the world’s global health professionals.  The program also aims to increase public health knowledge.

Courses are free and the registration is simple.  Students can learn in one or two hour classes; the lesson can be paused and completed at a later date.  Those interested in studying online can sign up for a single course, or study similar lessons in the process of earning a certificate in a particular field of study.

Some of the certificate program topics include:

  • Child survival and disease control
  • Family planning and reproductive health
  • Gender and health
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Infectious diseases
  • Maternal health
  • Neonatal health

A complete listing of courses and registration information can be found at the Global Health Learning website.
